Fifty Rehirings

Reading Time: < 1 minute

2007–2025

Each spring, the letter comes and says, "Perhaps."
Each August comes another and says yes.
Nineteen years of yes arriving late,
Each December, shelving books, just in case,
of loving work, unsure until the day
Before it starts, if I am asked to stay.
I taught nine hundred students, name by name.
The office door still bears another's name.
